Seaman Paper expands in Germany and acquires paper manufacturer Julius Glatz

GERMANY – Seaman Paper Company, a fourth-generation, family-owned global leader in sustainable paper and packaging solutions, has acquired Julius Glatz GmbH (“Glatz”), a renowned producer of specialty papers based in Neidenfels, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.

Founded in 1885, Glatz is a family-owned business and a global leader in high-quality technical specialty products.

The acquisition, which includes its subsidiaries PaperTec GmbH and Glatz TransTec GmbH, strengthens Seaman Paper’s operations in Germany and enhances its technological capabilities for developing specialty paper solutions to replace single-use plastics worldwide. The terms of the transaction remain undisclosed.

Glatz’s business divisions and production facilities will continue operations, supported by strategic investments to expand their capabilities.

The company’s approximately 240 employees will join Seaman Paper’s global team, while Julius Glatz GmbH will remain a legally independent entity.

The Glatz brand will be preserved to maintain its strong market position, and its German base will be leveraged for global growth.

This acquisition complements Seaman Paper’s existing presence in Germany, including its Rastatt facility, which was acquired in 2015. The facility employs 40 people and specializes in tissue and crepe paper production.

Kenneth Winterhalter, CEO of Seaman Paper, stated, “Glatz has been a trusted partner for many years, and as family-owned businesses, we share the same core values.

“This acquisition deepens our collaboration and begins an exciting new chapter. The talent and technological expertise of the Glatz team will sustain and grow the legacy business while enhancing our portfolio of sustainable fiber-based solutions.”

He added, “We are committed to investing in Glatz’s growth, increasing production capacity, and leveraging their technology to develop new products and explore new markets.”

The acquisition accelerates Seaman Paper’s strategic goals, combining its global reach and financial strength with Glatz’s technological expertise and innovative approach.

This partnership sets a solid foundation for sustainable growth in fine and specialty papers.

Nina Ritter-Reischl, former co-owner and Managing Director of Glatz, enthusiastically said, “Our companies have respected each other for years. Seaman Paper’s values align perfectly with our culture as a family-owned business.

“This partnership ensures a stable, sustainable future while broadening our range of highly specialized solutions for customers worldwide.”

This collaboration marks a significant step forward for Seaman Paper, positioning it as a stronger player in the sustainable packaging industry and reaffirming its commitment to replacing single-use plastics with innovative, eco-friendly solutions.
