Surya Global Flexi Films expands with Brückner’s BOPE line to advance sustainable packaging in India

The innovative hybrid system allows the company to switch between BOPP and BOPE production.

INDIA – Surya Global Flexi Films has taken a major step in sustainable plastic film manufacturing with the installation of an advanced 8.7-m hybrid film production line from Brückner Maschinenbau.

The new line, capable of producing both biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and biaxially oriented polyethylene (BOPE) films, reinforces India’s growing commitment to recyclable, mono-material packaging solutions.

The innovative hybrid system allows the company to switch between BOPP and BOPE production, offering manufacturers greater flexibility and efficiency while reducing waste.

Mono-material BOPE films are increasingly recognized as a key enabler of the circular economy due to their compatibility with existing polyethylene recycling streams.

These films combine high puncture and tensile strength with excellent sealability and stiffness, making them suitable for a range of flexible packaging applications, from snacks and personal care to household products.

“We are very pleased about this significant milestone, both for Surya Global and its positive development as a film manufacturer, as well as for the Indian market, which is taking an important step towards more sustainable plastics processing,” said Johann Kreilinger, Head of Sales for the Middle East, Subcontinent and Africa at Brückner Maschinenbau.

Surya Global’s investment reflects a growing trend among Indian converters toward advanced, recyclable film technologies.

With increasing regulatory emphasis on reducing plastic waste, the adoption of BOPE lines is seen as a strategic move that aligns with both global sustainability standards and India’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework.

Brückner Maschinenbau, a global leader in film stretching technology, continues to strengthen its presence in India, providing high-performance equipment to support the country’s shift toward eco-friendly packaging.

The new BOPE line is expected to boost Surya Global’s production capacity and enable the company to serve both domestic and export markets more competitively.

Industry observers note that this expansion positions Surya Global as one of the frontrunners in India’s sustainable packaging transformation, setting a precedent for more investments in recyclable and energy-efficient film technologies.

By embracing hybrid film production, Surya Global Flexi Films not only enhances its operational capabilities but also contributes to the broader goal of creating a more circular and resource-efficient packaging industry in India.
