Sustainability Milestone: H.B. Fuller’s German manufacturing plants earn ISCC PLUS Certification

GERMANY – H.B. Fuller, a preeminent global adhesive enterprise, proudly declares the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS accolade for its Lüneburg and Nienburg manufacturing facilities in Germany.

This certification underscores the company’s steadfast dedication to sustainability and adherence to international benchmarks across its intricate supply chain.

The ISCC PLUS certification stands as a globally acknowledged system validating the sustainability of diverse feedstocks, encompassing biomass, circular materials, and renewables.

The Lüneburg facility attains certification as a compounding site utilizing the mass balance approach, exemplified by the production of Advantra Earthic 9370.

The mass balance approach, a calculation-driven methodology, meticulously monitors the inputs and outputs of mass within a given system or process.

Advantra Earthic 9370, an adhesive nearing carbon neutrality, integrates a substantial proportion of sustainable and biocircular raw materials, demonstrating applicability across an array of packaging industries, including e-commerce, food, personal, and home care.

Simultaneously, the Nienburg site secures certification as a specialty chemical plant, manufacturing adhesives like Rakoll 5010, 5016, and 4020.

These products ingeniously substitute fossil raw materials with bioattributed materials, employing the mass balance approach.

This strategic shift not only mitigates carbon dioxide emissions but also opens avenues for broader implementation in industries such as textiles and automotive.

Nathalie Ruelle, Fuller’s Director of Global Quality and Sustainability, affirms, “By ceaselessly exploring avenues to diminish our carbon footprint and adopting innovative methodologies like mass balance, we are now positioned to furnish an array of solutions featuring verified, traced, biobased, and recycled raw materials spanning the entire supply chain.

“H.B. Fuller propels the incremental transition to alternative materials and emission reduction, aligning with our commitment to assist customers in achieving their sustainability objectives.”

In March of the preceding year, H.B. Fuller augmented its sustainability initiatives by participating in the RecyClass recycling program.

This non-profit initiative unites stakeholders across the plastics value chain, striving to enhance the circularity of plastic packaging and standardize recyclability and recycled content practices throughout Europe.

H.B. Fuller, at the forefront of adhesive development with a focus on performance and recyclability, plays a pivotal role in everyday items, including applications in plastics such as PET bottles, rigid containers for home care, and flexible packaging.

The participation in RecyClass underscores the company’s dedication to collaborative efforts aimed at advancing the recyclability of plastic packaging and promoting the use of recycled plastic across industries.
