Tadweer Group acquires Masdar’s Stake in Sharjah waste-to-energy plant

Capable of processing 300,000 tonnes of waste annually, the plant currently generates 30 megawatts (MW) of power.

UAE – Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC – Masdar, a global renewable energy leader, has divested its stake in the Sharjah Waste-to-Energy plant, in a move underscoring strategic realignment in the UAE’s clean energy and waste management sectors.

The stake has been acquired by Tadweer Group, a national frontrunner in sustainable waste solutions, subject to customary closing conditions.

This strategic divestment strengthens the Emirates Waste-to-Energy joint venture, which will now be co-owned and operated by Tadweer Group and BEEAH Group, Sharjah’s leading sustainability and innovation enterprise.

The partnership marks a new phase in the evolution of the Middle East’s first commercial-scale waste-to-energy plant, inaugurated in 2022.

The Sharjah facility, developed under the Emirates Waste-to-Energy company, plays a critical role in advancing the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 goals by converting non-recyclable waste into clean electricity.

Capable of processing 300,000 tonnes of waste annually, the plant currently generates 30 megawatts (MW) of power.

Plans are underway to double both its power output and waste processing capacity, amplifying its impact in diverting landfill waste and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi highlighted the project’s significance in the UAE’s clean energy transition, noting the company’s continued focus on expanding global renewable energy capacity.

Masdar has been particularly active across solar, wind, and green hydrogen initiatives, and is targeting 100 GW of global clean energy capacity by 2030.

Tadweer Group’s acquisition reflects its strategy to strengthen domestic operations while expanding its international footprint.

CEO Ali Al Dhaheri affirmed the group’s ambition to position the UAE as a global leader in sustainable waste conversion and energy recovery.

BEEAH Group CEO Khaled Al Huraimel emphasized the collaboration’s potential to enhance regional waste-to-energy capabilities.

“We thank Masdar for their invaluable partnership and look forward to building on these achievements with Tadweer Group,” he said.

This transition comes at a time of growing momentum in the UAE’s circular economy and energy diversification efforts.

Earlier this year, Tadweer launched several smart recycling initiatives and signed global MOUs aimed at enhancing waste valorisation technologies.

The consolidation of ownership between Tadweer and BEEAH will accelerate innovation in clean energy while reinforcing the UAE’s regional leadership in sustainable infrastructure development.
