Tetra Pak equips Meliha Dairy Factory with end-to-end processing & filling solutions

UAE – Tetra Pak announced a significant partnership with the Government of Sharjah’s Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL) through its commercial arm, Ektifa.

The collaboration will bring Tetra Pak’s latest advancements in sustainable packaging to the Meliha Dairy Factory, the UAE’s first farm integrating authentic organic production methods.

Following the recent opening of the Meliha Dairy Farm’s first phase, a high-profile Ektifa delegation visited Tetra Pak’s main production facility in Lund, Sweden.

The delegation, led by H.E. Dr. Eng. Khalifa Musabah Al Teneiji, Chairman of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Ektifa, and accompanied by Niels Hougaard, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Arabia Area, explored advanced technologies in sustainable dairy production and packaging.

This visit highlights Tetra Pak’s comprehensive capabilities in supporting sustainable dairy production, from equipping the production facility with state-of-the-art processing equipment to implementing sustainable filling lines.

Tetra Pak will also provide after-sales support across the value chain. This partnership reflects the Government of Sharjah’s commitment to creating a fully organic dairy farm and factory using carton-based packaging, promoting environmental sustainability.

During the visit, a new agreement was signed to install the Tetra Top Filling Line, an innovative solution for sustainable and recyclable packaging at the Meliha Dairy Factory.

All factory-produced products will use Tetra Top packaging, which combines the convenience of a bottle with the contemporary look and feel of a carton package.

This packaging is suitable for chilled products, ambient yogurt, and still drinks, offering a lightweight, space-efficient, and easy-to-use solution.

A second agreement for utilities generation and distribution was also signed. Tetra Pak will provide essential utilities such as steam, air, chilled, and processed water required by the processing equipment and filling machines at the Meliha Factory.

H.E. Dr. Engineer Khalifa Musabeh Ahmed Alteneiji expressed his excitement about the partnership: “We are thrilled with the welcome we received at Tetra Pak. We are excited to partner with the leading innovator in food and beverage packaging and processing.

“Tetra Pak’s cutting-edge technology and commitment to sustainability align perfectly with our vision to provide organic, home-grown, and locally produced dairy products to the people of the UAE. This agreement is a significant step forward for both entities.

“With Tetra Pak’s advanced processing and packaging technology, we are confident in achieving enhanced production efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and superior product quality.”

Niels Hougaard, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Arabia Area, commented, “We are honored to be chosen as a partner by DAL and Ektifa for the Meliha Dairy Plant.

“This facility is unique in the UAE and the Middle East for its focus on authentic, organic production and sustainability. Hosting the high-level delegation at our main production facility in Lund underscores our commitment to sharing advanced technological know-how in sustainable dairy production and packaging.

“Our strength lies in providing end-to-end solutions, from processing and automation to filling, ensuring consumers have access to fresh produce while minimizing environmental footprint through sustainable packaging.”

These new agreements for the Tetra Top Filling Line and utilities generation and distribution services at the Meliha Plant build on an earlier deal signed in January, related to the technology to be deployed at the processing facility.
