UFP unveils U-Loc 200 to enhance safety, sustainability

The U-Loc 200 marks the next major innovation in open-style crating – one that finally puts worker safety first

USA – UFP Packaging, a Michigan-based leader in industrial packaging solutions, has launched the U-Loc 200, an innovative tool-free crating system designed to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

The patent-pending solution eliminates the need for traditional nail and staple guns, which are linked to approximately 37,000 emergency room visits annually.

The U-Loc 200 features a unique fastener made from flexible polyamide, equipped with a “finger grip” for easy, tool-free assembly and disassembly.

According to UFP Packaging, the system’s reusable design, reinforced by anti-slip teeth and additional hooks, ensures stability for securing crate corners, rivaling the strength of conventional nails.

This makes it ideal for packaging high-value items such as medical equipment, technology, glass products, and appliances, safeguarding sensitive goods while maintaining crate integrity.

In a statement, Robert Bilbrough, UFP Packaging’s Director of Product Development and Marketing, emphasized the system’s transformative impact.

“After decades without meaningful change, the U-Loc 200 marks the next major innovation in open-style crating – one that finally puts worker safety first.”

He highlighted that the reusable nature of the U-Loc 200 aligns with growing industry demands for sustainable packaging solutions, reducing waste and supporting cost-effective operations for businesses.

Earlier this year, the company expanded its capabilities with a new corrugated facility in Jeffersonville, Indiana, designed to enhance advanced graphics and production for retail and e-commerce sectors.

UFP Packaging noted that the facility, which first opened in late 2024, was designed to offer both a robust stock box selection and bespoke corrugated solutions.

The facility’s expansion and advancement were scheduled to continue through 2025, with plans to incorporate new machinery and enter new market segments.

Additionally, the new facility would include a range of corrugated capabilities such as colour printers, flexo folder-gluers, flatbed die cutters, and rotary die cutters.

UFP Packaging protective packaging vice-president Nick Hoffman said: “This facility represents UFP Packaging’s commitment to innovation and supporting the evolving needs of our customers across diverse markets.”

In November last year, UFP Packaging opened its new Packaging Design and Development Centre (DDC) in Newnan, Georgia, US.

Spanning 10,000ft², the centre aimed to enhance customer engagement and drive innovation in packaging design.
