WRFL unveils I-Recycle Station to strengthen Fiji’s recycling infrastructure

The I-Recycle model aims to make waste sorting accessible to businesses, institutions, and households.

FIJI – Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited (WRFL) has launched the I-Recycle Station, a new addition to its nationwide recycling network designed to strengthen waste management systems and boost recycling rates across the country.

The I-Recycle Station enhances the connection between WRFL’s I-Recycle Hub and its Frames and Bags setup, marking the next phase in the evolution of the company’s community-driven recycling model.

According to WRFL, the new station is built to provide durable, practical, and cost-effective recycling solutions that keep valuable materials out of landfills and dumpsites.

WRFL Managing Director Joseph Inoke said the new design features a roofing system that protects recyclables from rain and sun exposure, an important improvement for outdoor and semi-covered collection areas.

“The I-Recycle Station represents a new chapter in how we think about recycling infrastructure in Fiji,” Inoke said.

“It supports a wide range of users, from industrial zones and corporates to hospitality facilities, by providing a clean, organized space for proper waste segregation.”

He added that the design underscores WRFL’s commitment to innovation and continuous learning, ensuring that recycling remains convenient, efficient, and visible in both urban and rural areas.

The I-Recycle model, introduced several years ago, aims to make waste sorting accessible to businesses, institutions, and households.

It encourages source separation of recyclables such as plastics, aluminum, paper, and glass, contributing to Fiji’s broader sustainability and circular economy goals.

WRFL’s initiative complements a growing regional shift toward smarter waste management systems.

In Samoa, for example, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment recently piloted a “Smart Bin” network for real-time waste tracking, while in Vanuatu, the RecycleCorp program has deployed solar-powered collection stations to improve rural recycling access.

Across the Pacific, recycling companies and local authorities are investing in infrastructure that combines community engagement, design innovation, and environmental responsibility.

With the launch of the I-Recycle Station, WRFL continues to position itself at the forefront of these efforts, helping shape a cleaner, more sustainable Fiji.
