UK – Label printing company, Baker Labels has announced the acquisition of a new HP Indigo 6K press for their digital department.
This purchase is an upgrade from their current HP Indigo WS6800 press, which was bought in 2014.
With the addition of this new press, Baker Labels now has a total of three HP Indigo presses and two screen inkjet machines in their digital department.
In addition, their flexible packaging division, BakPac, is equipped with an HP Indigo 20K press. The fleet of reel-to-reel label presses is completed with a Nilpeter FB3 flexographic press.
The decision to invest in the HP Indigo 6K press was driven by Baker Labels’ commitment to providing their staff with the best equipment to produce high-quality work.
The new press includes an inline priming unit, allowing for increased versatility in their coating process. Previously, materials were primed offline, but the inline priming unit offers additional options for the digital division.
Steve Baker, Managing Director of Baker Labels, expressed his satisfaction with the upgrade, stating that it ensures the digital division is well-equipped for the years to come.
He emphasized the company’s policy of minimizing issues and producing high-quality work by providing their staff with the latest equipment.
Baker said: “This latest HP Indigo 6k press with ILP was a natural progression as we needed to update our original 6800.
“It’s our first to include an in-line primer unit – we currently coat our materials offline, so this gives us a few more options. We have a policy of ensuring our staff have the best equipment to produce top quality work with the least number of issues.”
Earlier this year, Baker Labels expanded the finishing capabilities of its digital pouch production facility, BakPac, with a Digicon 3000 from ABG and Edale.
The Digicon 3000 is a wide-web digital finishing and converting solution, offering web widths between 400-762mm.
It was designed and manufactured in partnership between ABG and Edale, specialists in flexographic print, web transportation and post-print converting. This is the first UK installation of this design for the flex pack market.
Phil Smith, General Manager, BakPac at Bakers, at the time said: “The Digicon 3000 was the natural choice considering our ongoing relationship with ABG and our other Digicons.
“As we look to grow the BakPac division, the Digicon 3000 will help us introduce added value features to our flexible packaging such as extra coatings, spot varnish and cold foil embellishments.”
