The new BOPP line is equipped with the world’s most advanced technology.
INDIA — Cosmo First Ltd, a leading global manufacturer of films for packaging, labelling, lamination, and synthetic paper, has commissioned a new state-of-the-art BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) film production line at its Aurangabad manufacturing facility in Maharashtra.
The capital expenditure for the project stands at over ₹400 crore (approximately US$46.68 million), making it one of the company’s most significant capacity expansions to date.
The new BOPP line is equipped with the world’s most advanced technology and has an annual rated capacity of 81,200 metric tonnes.
With this addition, Cosmo First’s total annual BOPP production capacity rises by nearly 40% to 277,000 metric tonnes.
The move is expected to bolster the company’s position in both domestic and international packaging markets amid increasing demand for high-performance films.
Cosmo First has been consistently growing its specialty sales at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10% over the past six years.
The newly commissioned BOPP line is set to further accelerate this growth by supporting the development and launch of several new high-margin specialty films in the coming quarters.
These include advanced solutions for food and beverage packaging, personal care, and industrial applications.
Commenting on the development, Pankaj Poddar, Group CEO of Cosmo First, said, “We expect the line to get filled fast due to the current favourable gap in demand and supply in the domestic industry.
“Further, the new BOPP film line shall be eligible for state government incentives, besides being the most cost-efficient line in India.”
Poddar added that Cosmo First will continue to focus on leveraging its new investments, including this BOPP expansion, to strengthen its specialty film business and drive profitability.
The enhanced manufacturing capability is also in line with the company’s long-term strategy of innovation-driven growth and sustainability.
India’s flexible packaging market has seen robust expansion driven by rising consumer demand for packaged goods, increasing urbanisation, and a shift toward recyclable and lightweight packaging solutions.
BOPP films, known for their high clarity, barrier properties, and cost-effectiveness, are widely used in the packaging of snacks, labels, and hygiene products.
The new line places Cosmo First in a strong position to capitalise on these trends while reinforcing its leadership in specialty films across global markets.
