The JV is expected to enhance offerings for manufacturers and brand owners through products that integrate local insights with global best practices.

SOUTH KOREA — Cosmo First Limited, a diversified Indian conglomerate engaged in specialty films, chemicals, rigid packaging, and pet care, has announced a 50-50 joint venture with Filmax Corporation, a leading South Korean films and chemical company.
The partnership aims to introduce Cosmo First’s multiple business verticals to the South Korean market while taking Filmax’s products global through Cosmo’s extensive international network.
Under the joint venture, both partners will contribute equally, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainable growth and innovation.
The collaboration combines Cosmo First’s advanced technology, global supply chain expertise, and strong R&D in specialty films and rigid packaging with Filmax’s market reach, consumer trust, and established brand presence in South Korea.
The JV is expected to enhance offerings for manufacturers and brand owners through products that integrate local insights with global best practices.
Ashok Jaipuria, Chairman and Managing Director of Cosmo First, said, “This collaboration marks an exciting new chapter for Cosmo First.
“By joining hands with Filmax Corporation, we merge global innovation with South Korean excellence. Together, we are confident of achieving ambitious growth, delivering superior value to customers, and setting new standards in specialty film solutions.”
Echoing the sentiment, Byung Ik Woo, Chairman of Filmax Corporation, added, “Our partnership with Cosmo First is a major step toward reinforcing our leadership in the region while expanding globally.
“By combining Cosmo’s expertise in specialty films and chemicals with our strong local market reach, we aim to set new industry benchmarks.”
The strategic move comes as global packaging and specialty film companies increasingly turn to partnerships for growth and localization.
Earlier this year, UFlex Limited entered a collaboration with Japanese firm Kyodo Printing to develop high-barrier sustainable films for Asian markets.
Similarly, Toray Industries expanded its polyester film capacity through a joint venture in Indonesia, targeting high-performance applications in flexible packaging and electronics.
Industry observers note that the Cosmo First–Filmax partnership aligns with the growing trend of cross-border collaborations that blend technological innovation with market-specific expertise.
With South Korea’s packaging and specialty materials sector projected to grow steadily amid rising demand for sustainable and high-performance films, the new alliance positions both companies to capitalize on evolving regional and global opportunities.
