The facility aims to produce 1,000t of coatings annually by FY30 for specific Asian markets.

INDONESIA – DIC Corporation has launched a cutting-edge production facility in Jakarta, dedicated to manufacturing coatings for direct food contact materials.
Located at PT. DIC Graphics, a wholly owned subsidiary, the plant aims to produce 1,000 tons of coatings annually by 2030, targeting Asian markets such as China and Oceania.
The facility focuses on high-performance coatings like HYDRECT and SunStar DFC OPV/Coating, enabling the creation of recyclable paperboard lunch boxes, pizza boxes, and paper cups with water and oil resistance.
These coatings support mono-material packaging, enhancing recyclability without compromising functionality.
“Our goal is to meet the growing demand for sustainable packaging while ensuring safety and quality,” said a DIC spokesperson.
Designed with advanced safety features, the plant incorporates air showers, high-efficiency particulate air filters, and antibacterial flooring.
It complies with the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) system and adheres to the World Health Organization’s Good Manufacturing Practices.
The facility has also secured Indonesia’s halal certification, aligning with local regulations.
This marks DIC’s first Asian facility outside Japan dedicated to food contact coatings, a key step in its Vision 2030 plan to advance a circular economy.
The strategic location positions it as an export hub, with potential for future expansion. “This investment allows us to bring globally developed technologies to local markets,” a company executive noted.
The facility supports the rising demand for eco-friendly packaging in Asia, where sustainability is a growing priority.
A recent industry report highlighted Indonesia’s new 2025 regulations, which mandate stricter safety and sustainability standards for food packaging, aligning with global norms.
These rules require approved substances and rigorous testing, fostering innovation in greener materials.
The company is expanding its portfolio to meet next-generation packaging needs, reducing reliance on hard-to-recycle plastics.
By localizing production, DIC aims to strengthen its competitiveness in the global sustainable packaging market, valued at US$272.93 billion in 2023, with Asia-Pacific leading in biomass-based materials.
