Empowering Africa: LONGi and Power Solution unveil ‘Light Up Africa’ SDG Project’

AFRICA – During the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2024 in Davos, the solar technology company LONGi successfully concluded a partnership agreement with Shenzhen Power Solution to provide tailor-made solar products, addressing the energy access challenges faced by off-grid communities in Africa.

Approximately 780 million individuals, constituting about 10% of the global population, reside in off-grid regions, predominantly in the Sub-Saharan Desert areas.

Dennis She, Vice President of LONGi, and Li Xia, Chief Executive Officer of Shenzhen Power Solution, underscored the significance of affordable solar power solutions in alleviating poverty in these regions.

Dennis She highlighted the role of technological innovations in the solar power industry as pivotal for global energy transition.

As a pioneer in renewable energy innovation, LONGi has been steadfast in reducing costs and enhancing efficiency in solar power, providing benefits not only to nations pursuing energy transition but also extending crucial access to green power in underdeveloped regions.

She emphasized that achieving Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG7) is integral to realizing all United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for a more sustainable future.

The decrease in solar power costs serves as the foundational element for achieving global energy equity, particularly in underdeveloped regions.

Li Xia, CEO of Shenzhen Power Solution, expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating that joining forces with LONGi will enable Power Solution to deliver more innovative solutions for African countries.

Li Xia received the 2024 Schwab Foundation Social Innovation Awards–Social Entrepreneurs in Davos. She was the sole recipient from China in the current year and is the first Chinese woman to be honored with this award.

In December 2023, LONGi’s Jiaxing Production Base in China’s East Zhejiang Province gained recognition from the World Economic Forum as a Global Lighthouse Factory.

This distinction marked the world’s first solar module manufacturing base to join WEF’s Global Lighthouse Network (GLN). LONGi’s Jiaxing Factory was among the 21 new Global Lighthouse Factories acknowledged in 2023.

The World Economic Forum acknowledged LONGi for its innovative adaptation of intelligent technologies to advance intelligent solar products manufacturing.

LONGi’s technological innovations, many of which are industry-first and independently patented, were recognized for their potential to reduce unit manufacturing costs by 28% within one year and unit energy consumption by 20%.
