Epson earns prestigious Platinum Rating from EcoVadis

JAPAN – Global technology leader Epson has achieved a platinum rating for sustainability from EcoVadis, a prominent business sustainability ratings provider.

This recognition underscores Epson’s dedication to upholding the highest standards across key areas, including environmental practices, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

Earning a platinum rating places Epson in the top 1% of companies and industries evaluated by EcoVadis, reflecting its continuous progress in sustainability.

Despite EcoVadis implementing stricter evaluation criteria, Epson improved its overall score from 77 to 83 points out of 100.

This independent certification affirms the company’s commitment to responsible and accountable business practices.

Epson ranked in the top 1% for Environment, Labor, and Human Rights in the latest assessment and 2% for Sustainable Procurement.

The company also placed in the top 30% for Ethics. The platinum medal, awarded to companies in the top 1%, reflects the growing rigor of EcoVadis’ evaluation process.

EcoVadis is a globally recognized rating organization that covers more than 220 industries and assesses over 130,000 companies in 180 countries.

Epson’s platinum rating is a testament to its continuous improvement and dedication to sustainable growth over the past year.

“This platinum certification is the result of our ongoing efforts to address societal and environmental challenges,” said Takanori Inaho, President of Epson Europe.

“Guided by the principle of Sho Sho Sei, which emphasizes continuous improvement, we are committed to developing compact, efficient, and precise technologies that contribute to climate solutions. We understand our responsibility to minimize our impact on the planet.”

Epson is working towards its ambitious goal of becoming carbon-negative and resource-free by 2050.

Key accomplishments for Epson in FY23 demonstrate significant strides in sustainability, social responsibility, and governance.

Regarding decarbonization, Epson Europe has made substantial progress following its 2023 transition to 100% renewable electricity at all fully owned global sites.

The company reported a 19% reduction in business travel emissions compared to the previous fiscal year. Optimized deliveries from Asian factories are projected to reduce future CO2 emissions by 10-50% per container.

Epson also plans to establish a biomass plant in Japan, further decreasing reliance on fossil fuels and advancing its decarbonization goals.

Epson’s commitment to social responsibility has deepened through its efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Comprehensive training programs have been implemented to foster these values across the organization.

Epson’s factories in Indonesia and the Philippines have been recognized with Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) Platinum status, highlighting their adherence to ethical labor practices.

In governance, Epson has renewed its certification from Bureau Veritas, demonstrating its alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This renewal reinforces Epson’s leadership in sustainable governance, solidifying its commitment to long-term responsible business practices.

Boris Manev, Sustainability Director at Epson Europe B.V., remarked, “We are committed to driving sustainable innovation and setting new benchmarks in environmental responsibility.

“Our pioneering initiatives, such as advancements in textile recycling and partnerships with the fashion industry, show that sustainability and business success can go hand in hand. Our carbon capture and renewable energy investments are key milestones for becoming carbon-negative.”

This platinum rating is a significant achievement for Epson. It reflects the company’s leadership in product innovation and unwavering commitment to creating a more sustainable industry.
