SWEDEN – Swedish bioplastics company Gaia Biomaterials has launched a new stable, rigid, and heat-resistant compostable material for drinking straws.
This innovative material, a grade of the company’s limestone-based Biodolomer, enables the production of sustainable straws suitable for all types of beverages.
Unlike many alternatives, Biodolomer does not leave microplastics and is certified compostable by BPI in the US and European certification bodies. This means that by choosing our straws, you’re not only enjoying your drink, but also contributing to a cleaner, greener planet.
The new material has been rigorously tested and proven to be particularly well-suited for hot drinks like Irish coffee and hot chocolate. It can withstand temperatures over 80ºC without losing its rigidity and stability.
After successful tests with drinking straw manufacturers in Europe and the US, Gaia Biomaterials commenced full-scale production in late May.
This ensures that our heat-resistant straws will be readily available in the market, meeting the growing demand for sustainable alternatives.
“Drinking straws has been an issue for many,” stated Gaia Biomaterials CEO Peter Stenström. “According to many consumers, the degradable alternatives have simply not been good enough. But soon, you’ll be able to use straws again with a clean conscience and without a distinct aftertaste of paper.”
Clearly Canadian introduces new six-pack SleekCans
Meanwhile, Clearly Canadian, a producer of premium flavored sparkling waters, has expanded its product lineup by introducing six-pack SleekCans.
This edition includes the company’s popular ‘Originals’ and ‘Zero Sugar’ lines. The 355ml SleekCans come in flavors such as Mountain Blackberry, Wild Cherry, and Orchard Peach.
They are available in Kroger stores, Food Lion, and Amazon in the US, and further expansion plans are underway.
The launch of these cans was driven by a crowdfunding campaign initiated by brand fans. Clearly, Canadian aims to offer more value and convenience with these fully recyclable cans, which also address concerns about glass breakage.
“Our fans’ love and desire for Clearly Canadian never cease to amaze us. Rest assured that our iconic blue glass bottle is here to stay, as it is preferred by many of our consumers,” said Clearly Canadian CEO Paul Tepperman.
“But our consumers and retail partners have been seeking multipacks and can formats for some time, and we were able to set up our manufacturing to deliver on that ask. In addition to offering fans new occasions and convenient packaging with cans, we saw an opportunity to provide better value in the multipack format.”
This expansion of Clearly Canadian’s product offerings aligns with its increased retail presence, aiming to meet consumer demand and enhance the overall customer experience.
