GERMANY – Henkel Adhesive Technologies has launched a groundbreaking cleaner and coater technology to enhance efficiency and sustainability in metal pretreatment.

This innovative solution helps users in the metal industry reduce the number of process steps by half while saving water and energy. It aligns with Henkel’s sustainability campaign, ‘Respect the Planet, Rethink Design.’

Henkel’s new technology addresses the critical challenge of cleaning and coating metal surfaces, vital for corrosion protection and paint adhesion.

These processes are essential for ensuring the quality and performance of products ranging from household appliances to heavy machinery.

According to a white paper released by the company, the new technology can reduce the processing steps from ten to four by using the latest coaters.

At the core of this innovation is the Bonderite M-NT 41044 solution, a phosphate-free liquid product designed for conversion coating to improve corrosion resistance.

This solution can clean and coat metal parts in a single step and is suitable for use with powder, wet, or cataphoresis coating applications in the general industry.

“Our commitment to a sustainable metal industry is at the heart of Henkel’s business. We are rethinking the status quo with our customers and reinventing existing processes to deliver a positive impact,” said Volker Mansfeld, Vice President of Henkel Adhesive Technologies EIMEA Industry.

“This optimization process focuses on high-performance products with a responsible approach to natural resources.”

In line with its sustainability goals, Henkel has also revamped its bonding and sealing product line to meet the needs of its customers and craftsmen in the European market.

Last November, the company introduced a new packaging concept for its product line. The cartridges are made from up to 95% recycled plastic sourced from post-consumer recyclate (PCR), significantly reducing reliance on virgin plastic.

The phased rollout of this packaging concept, alongside other offerings, has begun across Europe and is expected to continue until the end of 2024.

This initiative includes various construction adhesives and sealants under renowned brands such as Pattex, Rubson, Sista, Ceresit, and Unibond.

Each product contains at least 80% and up to 95% recycled plastic content derived from PCR sources, further amplifying Henkel’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability initiatives across its markets.
