EUROPE – Henkel, a company specializing in chemicals and consumer goods, has revealed the reimagining of its bonding and sealing product line, catering to the needs of its customers and craftsmen throughout the European market.

This revamped portfolio showcases cartridges crafted from recycled plastic, amplifying Henkel’s commitment to environmental responsibility and bolstering sustainability initiatives across these markets.

The packaging concept incorporates up to 95% recycled plastic sourced from post-consumer recyclate (PCR), significantly reducing the reliance on virgin plastic.

The company has initiated a phased rollout of this packaging concept, alongside its other offerings, across Europe. This gradual introduction is expected to continue until the culmination of 2024.

Henkel highlighted that an array of products under renowned brands like Pattex, Rubson, Sista, Ceresit, and Unibond encompasses various construction adhesives and sealants.

Each product, tailored to its unique specifications, contains a minimum of 80% and up to 95% recycled plastic content derived from PCR sources.

Baptiste Chieze, Director of Marketing, Digital, and E-Commerce for Consumer Adhesives at Henkel Adhesive Technologies, expressed, “Sustainability stands at the core of our strategy, and the new packaging concept for our bonding and sealing line showcases our steadfast commitment to meet ambitious packaging targets, without compromising product performance.

“This marks a crucial stride in reducing virgin plastic consumption and advancing the circularity of plastic waste by integrating PCRs.

“We initiated the relaunch with a specific portfolio in Central Europe and France in 2022 and aim to progressively introduce these new recycled plastic cartridges across a significant portion of our product range in other European nations by the end of 2024.”

The relaunch of the bonding and sealing portfolio aligns seamlessly with Henkel’s dedication to sustainable packaging and embracing a circular economy.

Henkel has also outlined its packaging objectives for 2025, aiming to slash virgin plastic usage in its own-brand packaging by 50% and ensure complete recyclability and reusability of its products.

In line with this commitment, the company joined the UK Aerosol Recycling Initiative in August, a recycling program led by the non-profit organization Alupro.

Launched in September 2022, the UK Aerosol Recycling Initiative targets a national aerosol recycling rate of 50% by 2030.
