Holland Colours’ PET stabilizer secures APR recyclability certification

This Critical Guidance recognition marks another important milestone in Holland Colours’ mission to deliver additive technologies

NETHERLANDS – Holland Colours announced its innovative PET stabilizer, HolcoPET CircStab V101-15-32440, has earned formal recognition from the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) for top-tier recyclability standards.

The liquid additive, powered by SI Group’s Evercycle technology, targets challenges in PET recycling processes.

It works by countering yellowing effects in recycled material while maintaining essential properties like brightness and viscosity.

Testing under APR’s PET-CG-01 protocol confirmed its performance at loadings up to 0.2 percent by weight.

This certification follows a rigorous evaluation aligned with the APR Design Guide, which assesses packaging components for compatibility within North America’s recycling infrastructure.

The process verifies that designs minimize interference in sorting and reprocessing, paving the way for higher-quality recycled PET output.

Officials noted that the approval builds on an earlier endorsement from RecyClass, Europe’s recyclability testing body, and supports the creation of more efficient closed-loop systems for plastic bottles and containers.

Steve Alexander, president and CEO of APR, praised the achievement. “APR congratulates Holland Colours for taking action to improve the recyclability of packaging and taking the steps to receive APR Design Recognition,” he said.

The recognition arrives amid rising demand for verified sustainable materials in the packaging sector. PET, widely used for beverages and consumer goods, faces pressure to increase recycled content amid global regulations.

Additives like CircStab help processors achieve consistent results, reducing waste and energy use in production.

According to industry data, North American PET recycling rates hover around 30 percent, with additives playing a key part in boosting that figure.

Holland Colours, a global supplier of colorants and additives, now offers this solution to help converters meet targets for up to 50% recycled content in new bottles.

In a related move, Berlin Packaging recently partnered with APR to test PET bottle designs for better recyclability.

The collaboration focuses on hybrid packaging formats, providing converters with data-driven insights to refine prototypes early in the development process.

Further afield, Avery Dennison reported that its AD CleanFlake technology gained.
