Hueck Folien names Christoph Steger as new CEO

Steger brings over two decades of leadership experience in global business development and strategic growth initiatives.

AUSTRIA – Hueck Folien, a leading Austrian producer of specialized films for security, labeling, and design applications, has named Christoph Steger as its new chief executive officer.

Steger takes over from Dr. Martin Bergsmann, who steered the company through more than 14 years of steady expansion in global markets.

The change comes at a time when the firm continues to invest heavily in eco-friendly materials and processes to meet rising demand for sustainable packaging solutions.

With over 20 years in international management, Steger has held senior roles in business development across Europe and Asia, focusing on growth strategies for manufacturing sectors.

He joins Hueck Folien at a pivotal moment, as the company operates production sites in Germany, the US, and China, serving clients in pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, and luxury branding.

Annual revenues stand at approximately US$250 million, with a significant portion tied to recyclable and biodegradable film technologies.

Konstantin Thomas, chairman of the supervisory board, praised the selection process. He said the board sought a leader with hands-on expertise in innovation and environmental practices to meet the company’s expansion goals.

Steger expressed enthusiasm for his role during the announcement. He noted that working alongside the team’s skilled professionals would allow Hueck Folien to enhance its standing in key regions.

The executive highlighted opportunities arising from advances in green manufacturing and worldwide distribution networks.

Under Bergsmann’s tenure, Hueck Folien introduced several low-impact product lines, including films derived from renewable sources that reduce plastic usage by up to 40% in label applications.

These developments have helped the company secure contracts with major brands aiming to cut their carbon footprints.

Steger plans to build on this foundation by prioritizing further international outreach, with targeted investments in North American and Asian facilities totaling US$15 million over the next two years.

The new CEO intends to accelerate the shift toward circular economy principles, such as integrating recycled content into security films without compromising durability.

Production digitalization efforts will also receive attention, aiming to optimize energy efficiency and minimize waste in operations.

These steps support Hueck Folien’s ongoing projects, like developing tamper-evident labels that comply with EU recycling directives.

In related industry developments, recent efforts in Europe show packaging firms ramping up sustainable initiatives.

For instance, a German manufacturer unveiled a plant-based barrier film last month that extends shelf life for food products while being fully compostable, priced at around US$2.50 per square meter.

Such innovations address the global push for reduced virgin plastic, with market analysts projecting a 12% annual growth in eco-packaging demand through 2030.

Hueck Folien’s leadership shift positions it to capture a larger share of this expanding segment, particularly in high-security applications for pharmaceuticals.

This transition maintains operational stability while introducing targeted enhancements.

Employees and partners have welcomed the move, citing Steger’s background as a strong fit for navigating regulatory changes in environmental standards.

As the packaging sector evolves, Hueck Folien remains focused on delivering reliable, earth-friendly solutions to its diverse customer base.
