Orkla adopts Syntegon’s Elematic 3001 WA Compact case packer to meet export conditions

FINLAND – Finnish retailer Orkla Confectionery & Snack has invested in processing and packaging technology supplier Syntegon’s Elematic 3001 WA Compact case packer technology to meet the changing export conditions in the US and Canada.

Orkla has invested in Syntegon’s case packer solution to meet its liquorice bags packaging requirements at its Vaajakoski site in Jyväskylä, Finland.

At this site, Orkla produces chocolate and liquorice products that are then exported to Scandinavia, the UK, Canada, the US as well as to Central Europe.

To export to these nations, Orkla has to fulfill different packaging requirements.

According to Syntegon, changing transport conditions in the US and Canada required Orkla to shift from packing two products side by side to only one package in a row while somehow boosting its overall production capacity simultaneously.

Orkla, therefore, needed a new case packer solution to address these international export challenges.

The company said its main requirements for the new packer were that it should occupy less space, have increased speed, can handle ten different case formats and have a small footprint.

All of these requirements were met by Elematic 3001 WA Compact, which is a flexible and space-saving case packer that can pack nearly ten formats with an infeed performance speed of 150 bags per minute.

It is equipped with an Elematic Click System that supports a fast, tool-free, as well as completely reproducible format changeover.

Orkla technical manager Arto Liimatainen said: “The machine delivers what its name suggests – a compact, easy-to-clean and accessible case packer.”

Syntegon launches new capsule-filling machine

Meanwhile, Syntegon has released its GKF Capsylon 6005 capsule filling machine – designed to fill 360,000 nutraceutical capsules per hour, over double the capacity of its previous model – in Europe and the US.

This high-speed machine offers forty-eight segment bores rather than twenty-one and in four rows rather than two.

As such, it is said to fill more capsule segments than the GKF Capsylon 3005’s 175,000 capsules per hour without increasing operation times.

The GKF Capsylon 6005’s click system is also said to speed up format part changeover. As it does not require manual readjustment, the machine claims to process a wide range of different products on the same machine and save time, while its system aims for intuitive operation.

While it is already available in the Asian market, its North American launch is scheduled for October 2023.

Andreas Nuessle, product manager at Syntegon said: “The GKF Capsylon 6005 combines a significantly higher output rate with the flexibility of the range to fill powders, pellets, granules, and even special products. This makes it suitable for a particularly wide range of applications.”
