The plant has an annual capacity of about 200,000 tonnes

GERMANY – Progroup has began regular operations at its new corrugated sheetfeeder plant in Cessalto, Italy, in late August 2025.
The state-of-the-art facility, known as PW16, enhances production capacity and emphasizes sustainability in one of Europe’s largest corrugated sheetboard markets.
The Cessalto plant, completed on time and within its US$50 million budget, boasts an annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes.
Operating at 400 meters per minute with a 3.35-meter working width, it produces Next Generation corrugated board sheets designed for low grammage, prioritizing resource conservation.
“This plant embodies technological progress and teamwork,” said Progroup CEO Maximilian Heindl in a statement.
He highlighted its role in fostering long-term customer partnerships in Italy.
Innovative packaging park model
Progroup’s Cessalto facility leverages its packaging park concept, operating adjacent to Ondulkart, a family-run packaging manufacturer.
This proximity streamlines logistics, with corrugated sheets moving directly from Progroup’s automated high-bay warehouse, which holds 15,000 storage spaces, to Ondulkart’s plant via an intelligent intralogistics system.
This eliminates dozens of daily truck deliveries, cutting costs and CO₂ emissions.
Antonio Pesce, CEO of Ondulkart, noted, “Our close integration with Progroup allows unmatched speed and flexibility in serving customers.”
The model sets new standards for efficiency and sustainability in packaging production.
Sustainability and market expansion
According to Progroup’s Chief Sales Officer, Vinzenz Heindl, the Next Generation sheets offer stability with reduced material consumption, supporting the industry’s ecological goals.
The facility marks Progroup’s second plant in Italy, following PW11 in Drizzona, and strengthens its presence in the region.
