Sustainable Innovation: Enviromall introduces plant-based compostable PLA bags

SOUTH AFRICA – Enviromall has introduced a game-changing innovation with its new compostable PLA bags, signaling a significant shift towards sustainability in packaging.

These bags, crafted from plant-based materials, offer a green alternative to traditional single-use plastics, catering to the needs of the hospitality, retail, and packaging industries.

Traditional plastic packaging poses significant challenges in recycling, leading to environmental pollution. Enviromall’s compostable PLA bags, however, offer a solution by being derived from Polylactic Acid (PLA), a renewable plant-based material.

These bags are designed for industrial composting, leaving behind no harmful residues and minimizing environmental harm.

As one of the pioneers in South Africa producing compostable PLA bags, Enviromall demonstrates its commitment to driving positive environmental change.

Natalie Larkins, MD of Enviromall, emphasizes the significance of this milestone, highlighting the company’s dedication to offering sustainable alternatives without compromising quality or functionality.

Enviromall’s compostable PLA bags cater to various business needs across different industries, whether it’s packaging food, retail items, or beauty products.

These locally produced bags provide businesses with a versatile and eco-friendly solution that aligns with their sustainability objectives.

In a world where consumer demand for sustainable products is on the rise, Enviromall’s compostable PLA bags offer businesses an opportunity to meet these expectations while reducing their environmental impact.

Larkins encourages both businesses and consumers to embrace these innovative solutions, fostering a more sustainable future for generations to come.

Similarly, Xampla launched its consumer-facing brand Morro, offering plant-based alternatives to plastic.

Morro materials, derived from Supramolecular Engineered Protein (SEP), are biodegradable, plastic-free, and home-compostable.

This innovation provides businesses and consumers alike with eco-friendly solutions, contributing to a more sustainable future for generations to come.

Based on 15 years of research at the University of Cambridge by Xampla, the materials can be edible and soluble depending on their requirements –  meaning they can be used in applications where the whole product is either cooked or eaten together.

Additionally, Morro materials can package items like vitamins and nutrients within liquids that protect them from UV rays, pasteurisation and changes in pH balance.

Morro Soluble Film and Morro Edible Film can be disposed of alongside food waste. The other products biodegrade completely in all different end-of-life scenarios.
