The new line supports the Toppan Group’s global strategy to enhance supply of eco-friendly, high-performance packaging films.

INDIA – The Toppan Group, through its India-based subsidiary Toppan Speciality Films (TSF), has installed a hybrid manufacturing line capable of producing both biaxially-oriented polypropylene (BOPP) and biaxially-oriented polyethylene (BOPE) films on the same machine, a first-of-its-kind step in its regional operations.
The new line marks a major stride in expanding TSF’s film production capacity by about 40 percent and advancing the Group’s sustainability goals.
With a strong legacy in BOPP film production, TSF is now venturing into BOPE film manufacturing to meet the fast-growing demand for recycle-ready mono-material packaging solutions.
Mass production on the hybrid line is set to begin in mid-November 2025, supplying BOPP and BOPE films to packaging converters and global FMCG and food brands across India and international markets.
The new line supports the Toppan Group’s global strategy to enhance supply of eco-friendly, high-performance packaging films that align with evolving environmental regulations and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) standards.
By producing recyclable BOPE films with superior barrier properties, transparency, and strength, the company aims to help brands comply with India’s Plastic Waste Management Rules while contributing to a circular economy.
Europe’s strong shift towards mono-material, recycle-ready packaging, driven by new sustainability targets, has accelerated global demand for BOPP and BOPE films as alternatives to PET.
The hybrid line positions TSF to cater to this demand efficiently by switching between materials as required, thus minimizing downtime and optimizing production costs.
The system’s advanced quality management technology ensures uniform thickness and superior clarity, enabling the production of films suitable for both flexible packaging and high-barrier applications.
According to the company, these films will play a key role in expanding Toppan’s transparent GL BARRIER product line and developing high-value BOPP and BOPE films with enhanced sealability and heat resistance.
Toppan expects to increase its annual sales volume to around 33,000 tons by 2027, driven by rising demand for sustainable packaging solutions.
Similar initiatives are being seen across the packaging industry. For instance, Jindal Films has invested in BOPE production lines in Luxembourg to support circular packaging, while Uflex and Cosmo Films in India are scaling up their recyclable BOPP and BOPE film capacities.
Together, these efforts underline the packaging industry’s accelerating shift toward flexible, recyclable, and resource-efficient solutions worldwide.
