DuPont Cyrel celebrates 25 years of FAST thermal processing, expands healthcare operations

The system can cut platemaking time by up to 75% while reducing VOC emissions by 99.8%.

USA – DuPont Cyrel Flexographic Solutions is set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its groundbreaking Cyrel FAST thermal processing technology at Labelexpo Europe 2025, which runs from 16–19 September at the Fira Gran Via convention center in Barcelona.

The company will spotlight its latest innovations in flexographic plate-making, headlined by the Cyrel FAST 1000 TD processor.

This thermal processor eliminates the need for solvents, drastically reducing environmental impact and streamlining platemaking.

DuPont says the system can cut platemaking time by up to 75% while reducing VOC emissions by 99.8% and lowering the global warming potential of the process by nearly 50%.

“For a quarter century, Cyrel FAST technology has empowered label and packaging converters to boost productivity, accelerate turnaround times, and reduce environmental impact,” said Jan Scharfenberg, Business Leader EMEA at DuPont Cyrel.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate this milestone and showcase how our solutions continue to set the pace in sustainable platemaking.”

Launched in the early 2000s, Cyrel FAST has seen over 1,500 installations worldwide and has evolved through continuous innovation and customer-driven improvements.

Scharfenberg noted that its robustness, ease of operation, and low maintenance make it ideal for high-volume, eco-conscious operations.

In parallel with its Labelexpo showcase, DuPont is also strengthening its footprint in the healthcare sector.

Last month, the company expanded its medical manufacturing facility in Heredia, Costa Rica, increasing capacity for sterile packaging and medical tubing to serve the global medical device industry.

The 16,000ft² expansion includes new extrusion equipment and additional production lines for sterile packaging using DuPont Tyvek materials such as pouches, header bags, and lids.

The site, operated by Spectrum Plastics Group – a DuPont business – is now the first facility in Costa Rica and the Caribbean producing both fluid management and sterile packaging offerings.

“With this expansion, we significantly enhance our robust, growing portfolio of unmatched offerings and capabilities,” said James Chambers, Senior Vice President and General Manager for Fluids and Flexibles at Spectrum Plastics Group.

“We are committed to being a trusted supply chain partner to leading global healthcare companies.”

The Heredia facility now operates 24/7 and has earned ISO 13485:2016 and ISO 9001:2015 certifications, affirming its commitment to top-tier quality standards.

DuPont’s broader healthcare portfolio includes extruded tubing, catheter assemblies, smart wearables, medical balloons, and more, reinforcing its position as a key player in both packaging and healthcare innovation.
