This change aligns with the circular economy and does not compromise the freshness of pet food.
FRANCE – Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging, has partnered with Saga Nutrition, a French pet food manufacturer, to create recyclable packaging for Saga’s dry pet food range.
The sustainable solution is made from mono-material to replace the previously used non-recyclable multi-material plastic, ensuring pet food freshness while supporting a circular economy.
The new packaging, re/cycle FlexiBag, is designed to meet the companies’ internal Path to Circularity Scorecard criteria as well as CEFLEX recycling guidelines.
The solution is available for products weighing 3kg or more and features well-built barrier properties; FlexiBag inhibits moisture, fat, and odour.
This change aligns with the circular economy and does not compromise the freshness of pet food.
Olivier Werbrouck, Regional Sales Manager at Consumer Flexibles France, Mondi, remarked, “As consumer demand for sustainable solutions grows, we are excited to work with Saga Nutrition to deliver packaging that truly supports a circular economy when it comes to pet food.”
The design of the new packaging provides reliable protection during transportation overseas due to its durable construction, as well as features that ensure safe sealing, facilitating easy storage and handling, thereby catering to the specific needs of pet owners.
The adoption of mono-material packaging by Saga Nutrition also highlights its commitment to reducing waste and amplifying visual appeal.
“This collaboration with Mondi is a key milestone in our sustainability journey. By transitioning to recyclable mono-material packaging, we’re contributing to a circular economy while maintaining the high quality our customers trust,” says Jérôme de Solliers, CEO at Saga Nutrition.
Mondi introduces sustainable paper bags in UK
Earlier this year, Mondi also collaborated with the chemical company Evonik to introduce sustainable paper bags for a greener future.
The solution is a two-layer paper bag, which is 30% lighter than its predecessor, and is made from high-porosity kraft paper thus offering durability and flexibility.
As Evonik executed thorough testing to guarantee the bags met safety and performance requirements, Mondi assessed the new packaging using its internal Product Impact Assessment system. The bags are now being made use of commercially after successful trials.
Evonik partnership with Mondi on packaging transformation exemplifies how every part of their business is aligned on the same sustainable path focused on CO₂ reduction, portfolio transformation, and the circular economy.
