The pouch breaks down within 26 weeks in a domestic compost heap and within 12 weeks in an industrial composting facility

UK – Flexible packaging innovator, Parkside, has teamed up with vegan nutrition brand Vegums to introduce a fully compostable flexible pouch for multivitamin gummies.
This development aligns with growing demands for eco-friendly options that safeguard both personal wellness and environmental integrity.
According to industry experts, the new pouch utilizes film from Futamura and carries TÜV certification for home compostability.
It decomposes within 26 weeks in a household compost heap or 12 weeks in industrial facilities, offering a practical end-of-life solution.
Vegums previously relied on a flow wrap encased in a cartonboard tube, but the switch to this lightweight pouch slashes material usage significantly.
For a brand thriving on subscription models, e-commerce, and retail, the reduced weight streamlines logistics and cuts costs without skimping on product protection.
The pouch incorporates an advanced water-based barrier coating to maintain gummy freshness, ensuring optimal shelf life and user satisfaction.
This innovation underscores a commitment to high-performance materials that don’t compromise on sustainability.
Consumers are increasingly focused on their health and the planet’s well-being, according to Staci Bye, Sales Account Manager at Parkside.
She emphasized, “Our high-performance compostable packaging delivers a true cradle-to-cradle solution that doesn’t compromise performance for sensitive nutrition applications.”
Bye also shared her enthusiasm for collaborating with Vegums, noting their clear vision as a provider of clean-label, plant-based products.
“It has been a great experience working with Vegums,” she said, expressing gratitude for their trust in Parkside to support their sustainability goals.
John Rushton, Co-Founder and CEO of Vegums, praised the partnership, stating, “Working with Parkside on this project has been fantastic.”
He highlighted how Parkside’s expertise in compostable packaging allowed Vegums to reduce material use while maintaining quality and customer experience.
Rushton further commended the Parkside team, describing them as responsive and knowledgeable.
He noted their genuine investment in advancing Vegums’ sustainability objectives, making them valuable partners in the process.
This collaboration positions Parkside as a frontrunner in the nutrition sector, where brands seek packaging that mirrors their ethical stance. In a statement from Parkside, officials highlighted how such initiatives address dual priorities of consumer and planetary health.
In February 2025, the company developed a similar home-compostable pack for Datekin Sukkari dates, also guaranteed to break down in 26 weeks domestically.
This pattern reflects a broader industry shift, with vegan and health-focused brands adopting flexible, biodegradable alternatives to rigid formats.
As sustainable packaging gains traction, partnerships like this pave the way for reduced waste and enhanced recyclability, fostering a healthier future for all.
