DENMARK – PulPac, a technology provider specializing in sustainable packaging, has partnered with Danish premium confectionery brand LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW to develop eco-friendly packaging alternatives.
PulPac, a technology provider specializing in sustainable packaging, has forged a partnership with Danish premium confectionery brand LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW to pioneer eco-friendly packaging alternatives.
The collaboration, which leverages PulPac’s Dry-Molded Fiber (DMF) technology, aims to address the escalating consumer demand for sustainability within the confectionery sector.
Bolstering this initiative is the multidisciplinary design studio Office of Possibilities (OP), entrusted with translating innovative concepts into practical designs that elevate the customer experience.
Sanna Fager, PulPac’s Chief Commercial Officer, underscores the synergies of this collaboration, stating, “By merging PulPac’s Dry-Molded Fiber technology with OP’s design prowess and LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW´s unwavering commitment to excellence, we anticipate tangible outcomes from this partnership shortly.”
Heralded by PulPac as a game-changing manufacturing technology, DMF produces sustainable packaging using renewable fibers from responsibly managed forests.
This process boasts cost competitiveness, resource efficiency, and a significantly reduced environmental footprint compared to conventional plastic and fiber-based alternatives.
Johan Bülow, founder and creative director of LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW, emphasizes the brand’s dedication to challenging conventions and prioritizing sustainability.
Bülow affirms, “Exploring innovative technologies for responsibly produced packaging resonates with our values and sustainability ethos.”
This collaboration follows PulPac’s recent alliance with Da Matteo, a prominent Swedish coffee chain, to introduce an eco-friendly solution for takeaway coffee lids.
Developed in partnership with OrganoClick, Solenis, and Sofidel, this innovative lid incorporates barrier ingredients to ensure optimal performance while championing sustainability.
Viktor Börjesson, PulPac’s Chief Operating Officer, highlights OrganoClick’s biobased and biodegradable binder, which enhances performance and utilizes waste streams from the food industry.
This lid, crafted with specialty tissue from Sofidel Sweden and Solenis’ proven barrier solution, offers robust leak prevention, positioning it as a viable alternative to reusable containers in alignment with recent EU legislation on single-use plastics.
Moreover, PulPac’s DMF manufacturing process substantially reduces water and energy consumption compared to traditional methods, slashing the CO2 footprint by up to 80%.
Börjesson underscores the accessibility of regular pulp and the efficiency of the dry process, asserting the cost competitiveness of fiber-based alternatives against plastic packaging.
