The restructuring comes as the demand for integrated waste management and recycling services continues to grow.

KENYA – TakaTaka Solutions, one of Kenya’s leading waste management companies, has announced a major restructuring of its business into two distinct divisions — TakaTaka Solutions Collect & Sort and TakaTaka Plastic Recycling.
The company, which has been at the forefront of sustainable waste management in East Africa, said the move will enhance efficiency, innovation, and impact within its core areas.
The restructuring comes as the demand for integrated waste management and recycling services continues to grow amid rising urban waste volumes and a national shift towards a circular economy.
Under the new structure, TakaTaka Solutions Collect & Sort will focus on waste collection, sorting, and composting, activities that form the backbone of the company’s operations.
TakaTaka Plastic Recycling, on the other hand, will handle all plastic recycling and value addition processes, turning waste plastics into high-quality recyclates used by local and international manufacturers.
In a leadership update accompanying the announcement, Daniel Paffenholz will remain CEO of TakaTaka Plastic Recycling while continuing to serve as Director of TakaTaka Solutions as a whole.
Meanwhile, Floor ter Haar, who has served as Chief of Staff for nearly three years, steps up as the new CEO of TakaTaka Solutions Collect & Sort.
“This step empowers both teams to innovate, expand their impact, and bring sustainable waste management in Kenya to the next level,” the company said in a statement.
Founded in 2011, TakaTaka Solutions has built a vertically integrated waste management model that collects, sorts, recycles, and composts over 95% of the waste it handles, a rare achievement in a region where most waste still ends up in landfills.
The company serves thousands of households and businesses in Nairobi and has been recognized for creating employment, especially among youth and women, while promoting environmental stewardship.
Industry observers view the restructuring as a timely move to align with Kenya’s growing focus on sustainable waste solutions and the private sector’s increasing role in resource recovery.
With this new structure, TakaTaka Solutions aims to scale up its impact and solidify its position as a regional leader in recycling innovation.
