D6 acquires Good Natured Products’ Illinois extrusion plant, boosting circular packaging capacity

The plant brings more than 40 million pounds of additional annual extrusion.

USA — Food-grade packaging manufacturer D6 has acquired Good Natured Products’ extrusion plant in Richmond, Illinois, in an all-cash transaction that significantly expands its U.S. production footprint and strengthens its closed-loop manufacturing strategy. Financial details were not disclosed.

The 75,000ft² facility, already operational, adds more than 40 million pounds of annual extrusion capacity to D6’s network.

The company confirmed that all current employees at the site will transition to D6, ensuring uninterrupted operations and retaining local industrial expertise.

A key strategic advantage of the acquisition is the plant’s ability to process a substantial portion of clean wash flake (CWF) generated from D6’s Omni Recycling Center in Longview, Texas.

By directly linking recycled feedstock to extrusion, D6 says it is reinforcing its control over the value chain, from reclaimed materials to finished food-grade packaging.

The company described the move as a critical milestone in its multi-year effort to build domestic circular infrastructure for packaging.

Integrating the Richmond facility is expected to bolster material supply security, enhance operational resilience, and accelerate capacity expansion plans amid rising demand for post-consumer recycled (PCR) content in food packaging.

D6 chief financial officer Louis Dominion said, “By expanding our extrusion capacity and pairing it with our internal recycling capabilities, we’re strengthening control from shelf to bale and back to shelf.

“Most importantly, it gives our customers greater surety of supply and supports their growing need for reliable, high-quality food-grade PCR packaging.”

Good Natured Products, the seller, is known for its portfolio of bio-based and environmentally focused packaging solutions for food, industrial and consumer applications, with strong emphasis on plant-based materials.

The divestiture aligns with the company’s strategy to focus on its core materials and product platforms.

The acquisition comes amid heightened activity in North America’s sustainable packaging and recycling sector.

Inovar Packaging Group recently completed the acquisition of Enterprise Marking Products (EMP), a long-standing flexographic label manufacturer based in Fishers, Indiana.

Analysts note that surging brand-owner commitments to circularity, coupled with state-level recycled-content mandates, continue to drive investments in domestic recycling and extrusion capacity.

D6’s strategic purchase positions the company to better serve these evolving market demands while advancing the shift toward fully circular packaging systems.
