Thirty-year anniversary campaign leverages collectible packaging and nostalgic branding to drive retail engagement and seasonal sales.

USA – Beverage manufacturer Jones Soda has partnered with iconic arts brand Crayola to launch a limited-edition six-pack featuring vibrant collectible packaging, as the company celebrates its 30th anniversary and targets increased consumer engagement during the back-to-school season.
The special-edition multipack will be available through retail outlets and Jones Soda’s direct-to-consumer online platform for a limited time while supplies last.
Designed to capitalize on nostalgia and seasonal purchasing, the collaboration combines Crayola’s recognizable color palette with Jones Soda’s craft beverage portfolio, creating packaging intended to appeal to families, collectors and gift buyers.
Retail versions will include six Crayola x Jones Soda bottles packaged in a collectible six-pack box, while online purchases will feature additional promotional items, including four coloring pages and an eight-pack of Crayola crayons.
The collection features six soda flavors inspired by classic Crayola colors: Fruit Punch Soda (Razzmatazz), Orange & Cream Soda (Sunset Orange), Pineapple Cream Soda (Dandelion), Green Apple Soda (Granny Smith Apple), Berry Lemonade Soda (Robin’s Egg Blue), and Fufu Berry Soda (Razzle Dazzle Rose).
According to Jones Soda, the limited-edition packaging is designed to strengthen shelf visibility while driving online demand through exclusive collector-focused offerings.
By aligning the launch with the back-to-school shopping period, the company aims to tap into seasonal purchasing behavior and emotional connections associated with childhood creativity and school experiences.
The collaboration reflects a growing packaging strategy among food and beverage brands that use licensed intellectual property, collectible designs and limited production runs to create urgency and differentiate products in increasingly competitive retail environments.
Limited-edition packaging has become an important marketing tool across the beverage industry, enabling brands to generate consumer excitement, encourage repeat purchases and strengthen brand loyalty through exclusive, time-sensitive offerings.
The trend has gained momentum globally. Earlier this year, German brewer Bitburger introduced a series of collectible cans to commemorate Germany’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The packaging incorporated the company’s signature white branding alongside design elements inspired by the German national team’s iconic Schwarz-Rot-Gold colors, demonstrating how brands continue to leverage major cultural and sporting events through commemorative packaging.
Packaging experts note that limited-edition formats can deliver significant marketing value by enhancing product visibility, encouraging social media engagement and creating stronger emotional connections with consumers.
However, brands must also balance the higher design, production and logistics costs associated with short-run packaging against the commercial benefits.
As consumer demand increasingly shifts toward personalized and experience-driven products, collaborations between food, beverage and lifestyle brands are becoming an effective way to transform packaging from a functional necessity into a storytelling and brand-building platform that extends beyond the product itself.
